Get ready to laugh until your insides hurt because Tracy Morgan is returning to weekly television as the lead in a series co-created by Jordan Peele, of the comedic duo Key and Peele and John Carcieri.
In a long-awaited come back, the former 30 Rock co-star, landed an untitled half-hour sitcom that will capture Morgan’s stand-up persona in addition to dishing out commentary on race relations, the Gen X – millennial gap and the American penal system, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The plot:
Morgan portrays an ex-con who returns to Brooklyn after a 15-year stint in prison. Upon his return, he works to find his place in society and get reacquainted with family. But, of course, nothing is that simple or even the same. He discovers Brooklyn’s gentrification and his former girlfriend married a White man while he was away.
Given the series scenario and the tone that Morgan and Peele bring to the comedic space, this is going to be right on time and offer unique perspective and commentary.
The show was picked up by the TBS network and beat out Comedy Central.
“TBS is becoming a home for the most creative and diverse comedy creators in the business,” Brett Weitz, TBS’ executive vice president of programming, said in a statement. “Tracy and Jordan are a perfect fit for this network.”
It looks like Morgan will have a pretty busy 2017. He’s also geared up to appear in Fist Fight starring Ice Cube in February.
