One of the most anticipated concerts of the year goes down in Philly and is hosted by the legendary Roots Crew. This year, the two-day affair brought out hit makers such as DMX and Swizz Beats to deliver that good ol’ Ruff Ryders feel.
Willow Smith, along with her pops, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff dropped a classic performance of “Summertime.” The crew, along with Jada Pinkett-Smith, were also spotted among hip-hop heads who rocked to the sounds of Kehlani, Anderson .Paak, Usher and Lil’ Jon.
This past weekend served as the ninth annual Roots Picnic. Now the fellas are taking the show to NYC where they currently work on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
In an interview with NY1.com, Black Thought shared, “We’re kind of honorary New Yorkers because of our job here at the tonight show. So an opportunity to do something that is going to give back to the community that has embraced us in such a warm, welcoming way is huge.”
The NYC dates ares set for October 1st and 2nd at Bryant Park. Night one will take the soulful route and incorporate the sounds of D’Angelo and John Mayer. Night two will amp it up a bit with a tribute to the city with performances from Nile Rogers of Chic, David Bryne, and the Wu-Tang Clan.
Tickets start at $99. Two-day passes are available for $175.
