In a disposition concerning Robin Thicke’s summer 2013 anthem “Blurred Lines,” the singer admitted to a drug and alcohol problem–saying he didn’t do a “sober interview” in over a year.
But wait, there’s more.
Williams is also denying he had any part of writing the hit song, which Marvin Gaye’s family claims sounds eerily similar to the late soul singer’s “Got to Give it Up” and is the basis for their copyright lawsuit.
Originally, Thicke told GQ he and producer Pharell Williams wrote the song, which was inspired by Gaye’s hit, in half an hour.
But apparently that wasn’t the entire truth, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which obtained copies of the deposition:
“I was jealous and I wanted some of the credit…,” Thicke said. “I tried to take credit for it later because (Williams) wrote the whole thing pretty much by himself and I was envious of that.”
During Williams’ deposition, the producer says he didn’t intentionally rip off Gaye’s sound and claimed creative ownership of “Blurred Lines.”
The case is scheduled to go to trial in February 2015.
