MTV lives for their revivals, and it looks like the gruesome and cringeworthy Fear Factor is next on their list.
The series originally aired from 2001-2006 on NBC and the reality competition challenged brave contestants to engage in some truly gross stunts. With MTV now at the reigns of the blood-curdling series; we’re also going to get a very familiar host.
Rapper and The Fate of the Furious actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges will take the place of original host Joe Rogan; he will also be an executive producer. Ludacris said of his new gig, “I am excited to kick off my partnership with MTV, starting with the relaunch of Fear Factor, which will be even more insane and ludicrous than what you remember. This will be the first of many great projects together.” MTV president Chris McCarthy said in a statement, “We are thrilled to partner with Ludacris, one of the biggest global stars who has a rich history with MTV, to energize this franchise for a whole new generation.”
Though the series is being revived, this won’t be the Fear Factor of a decade ago. The show is getting a major revamp and will include new stunts inspired by urban legends, popular scary movies, and viral videos. According to MTV, this new Fear Factor will be, “custom-created for a generation that is increasingly empowered, while also more anxious than ever.”
While we’re still grossed out by the entire concept which is sure to include loads of insects and vermin, for those of you who are enthused, Fear Factor will premiere Tuesday, May 30.
So far MTV has ordered 12, one-hour episodes. Will you be watching?
