Quvenzhané just keeps on winning!

She may not have taken home the Oscar for Best Actress last night but Quvenzhané Wallis still had a reason to celebrate. Before making history at Sunday’s Academy Awards as their youngest nominee ever, the 9 year-old was making headlines when Sony Pictures announced that she had been cast as the lead role in their forthcoming film remake of the Broadway musical Annie.

Sony’s Production President, Hannah Minghella, had nothing but great things to say about the rising starlet in a statement yesterday:

“With the recent Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhané Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star…She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”

It sounds like Sony is more than happy with their decision to cast Wallis as orphan Annie–a role that was originally to be played by Willow Smith, daughter of Will and Jada Smith, who are also producers on the movie along with rapper Jay-Z. And Q, as Wallis’ friends call her, is excited about the part too but don’t get it twisted honey–she is still Quvenzhane and not afraid to let you know it! She politely checked an AP reporter yesterday on the red carpet who told her she was going to refer to her as “Annie” instead of her real name. The sweet-n-sassy star quickly corrected the reporter by saying “I am not Annie. I am Quvenzhane.”

I am HERE for this little girl! That is all.

Annie isn’t slated to hit theaters until late 2014, but you can check Quvenzhane out on the big screen again later this year, when she stars alongside Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender in Twelve Years a Slave.

Yep, you heard right. Three major films under her belt before she’s even a pre-teen! Here’s to hoping my DNA produces greatness like this.
