Oprah shows off natural tresses on cover

Oprah Winfrey showcases her natural tresses on the cover of the September 2012 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine.

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey is going au naturel for her magazine, O, The Oprah Magazine.

But it’s not exactly what you might think. For the September issue, Winfrey covers O rocking her naturally curly tresses, in celebration of the magazine’s theme that month — the makeover issue.

A few years ago when comic actor Chris Rock was getting ready to release his documentary Good Hair, he appeared on Winfrey’s show and she surprised him by telling him that her pressed out mounds of hair was all hers — no weave or enhancements. Rock then ran his fingers through her hair.

Winfrey enthusiasts — and Rock himself — were surprised that it was her natural hair.

Well, she’s showing it off — unpressed and without additions.

In the magazine, Winfrey talks about her natural hair, but says she sees nothing wrong with testing out different looks — she has worn weaves and such in the past.

“I even notice a change in my dogs when they get their summer cuts: they’re friskier and livelier,” she says in the September cover — which is on newsstands Aug. 7.

Winfrey talks about how she once thought about getting rid of her hair and doing a big chop like Bill Cosby’s wife, Camille Cosby.

Winfrey jokes — at least we think she’s joking! — that Cosby talked her out of doing it.

“I wanted to wear it close-cropped, a la Camille Cosby but her husband Bill convinced me otherwise. “‘Don’t do it,’ he said,” she remembers. “‘You’ve got the wrong head shape and you’ll disappoint yourself.’ I took his advice.”

The magazine’s cover says it’ll deal with transforming your luck, habits, stress level, friendships, health, style and attitude.//
