Oprah Winfrey is currently developing a drama for HBO from Harpo Films, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The project is said to be centered “on the first black president of a prestigious liberal arts college who has been thrust into the national headlines while quietly engaging in agonizing personal battles.”
Thomas Bradshaw is set to write and co-executive produce, while Winfrey and Harpo’s Kate Forte executive produce.
A long-term deal between Harpo Productions and HBO to develop movies, documentaries and scripted series was first signed in 2008. No information on a name or premiere date for the series has been announced yet.
