Tate Taylor, director of The Help, is said to be in negotiations for directing the highly anticipated James Brown biopic, according to Deadline.com. The film was previously rumored to be directed and written by filmmaker Spike Lee, who acquired the rights to the Brown biopic shortly after the singer’s death. The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger of Jagged Films and Brian Grazer of Image Enterntainment will co-produce the movie.
Brown was involved in the project before his death in 2006. Tommie Rae Brown, the singers’ widow, has high hopes for the collaborative efforts of the parties involved in the project.
“I am deeply honored that Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer, two of my husband James Brown’s favorite people, have entered into a partnership to bring his inspirational story to the big screen,” she said.
