After much speculation (and some criticism), Lenny Kravitz is officially out for the role of Marvin Gaye in a upcoming biopic about his troubled life – and seasoned actor Jesse L. Martin (Rent, Law & Order) is in. According to Deadline Hollywood, the film – called Sexual Healing (formerly Midnight Love) – will star Martin as Gaye during the recording of his Midnight Love album while coping with his drug addiction and other various issues while in London and Brussels.

If you recall, Gaye’s son Marvin Gay III opposed the casting of Kravitz for the role and threatened legal action. Now, with a new name, a new lead, and a new producer (Julien Temple) perhaps he will be satisfied?

Either way, the film is slated to begin shooting later this month in Europe.

What do you think of the switch-up in casting?
