Lawsuit: Did Ed Sheeran Rip Off Marvin Gaye’s Music?

Here we go again…

“Thinking Out Loud” singer Ed Sheeran is in the hot seat after being hit with a another lawsuit. This time he’s being accused of ripping off Marvin Gaye’s popular hit, Let’s Get it On.

This latest case comes after the battle between Gaye’s heirs, Pharrell, T.I. and Robin Thicke over the trio’s hit, “Blurred Lines”…and the verdict did not go in the artists’ favor.

However, this case is slightly different. Let’s Get It On was co-written by Gaye and Ed Townsend, both deceased. It is Townsend’s heirs who filed the lawsuit against Sheeran, Sony and Atlantic Records and Gingerbread Man Records.

In the lawsuit, the family states that “Thinking Out Loud” has the same melody, harmony and rhythm composition as the original classic.

Let’s investigate. Here’s Sheeran’s hit.

And here is Gaye’s.

What’s your verdict?
