It was her first time on Broadway, but Jennifer Hudson rocked it out as the jazzy, sensual Suge Avery in the musical production of The Color Purple.

J. Hud delivered. But now that it’s Tony Award season, Jennifer’s name is not among those nominated.
A fan called out the awards for their lack of acknowledgement, and the Chicagoan dismissed the snub with a little shade of her own.

Meanwhile, Hamilton made Tony Awards history with 16 nominations. The production has been praised by many, including the Obamas.
First Lady Michelle Obama endorsed the musical as “the best piece of art in any form that I have ever seen in my life.”
Adding to the melanin-rich talent in this year’s Tony round-up includes actress and playwright Danai Guriria, who received a nod for Best New Play for Eclipsed, Lupita Nyong’o, Pascale Armand, and Saycon Sengbloh also grabbed nominations for Eclipsed, Cynthia Erivo and Danielle Brooks received nominations for The Color Purple, Renee Elise Goldsberry for Hamilton, Sophie Okonedo for The Crucible, and Adrienne Warren for Shuffle Along.
Jennifer’s performance hasn’t gone without applause, though. Last week, she received a nomination for the Distinguished Performance Awards by the Drama League for The Color Purple alongside co-star Cynthia Erivo, who played the role of “Celie” in the play.
