Jay Ellis was all of us when Issa and Lawrence broke up on Insecure.
Last fall we all fell in love with Issa Rae’s HBO series Insecure. We watched Molly (Yvonne Orji) struggle to find a man without losing her ish, and we were glued to the TV screen as Issa tried to come to terms with her failing relationship and dead end job. Unfortunately, Issa and Lawrence’s relationship blew up after Issa cheated on him and Lawrence got his revenge by snatching up his pillow and having rebound sex with a busty bank teller.
It was the breakup that rocked social media and ended with people declaring themselves either #TeamIssa or #TeamLawrence. Ellis recently sat down with The Wrap to chat about how the breakup personally affected him. He said, “I felt like I spent so much time getting close to Issa [Rae] and that relationship. And just how close we had become as cast mates, I felt like I was breaking up with her as a person in real life.”
At least we know we aren’t the only ones whose souls were literally shattered. So what’s going to happen between Issa and Lawrence during season two? Is their relationship officially dead? Ellis said, “It’s not something that we get to see, it hasn’t really been talked about on TV a lot, the different stages that we go through. Does he go back? Does he become numb and never have feelings again? Does he go out and look for another girl? I would really like to see what happens with that.”
