J. Cole’s ‘FHD’ Goes Platinum

J cole

With only three weeks of promotion and no lead singles in radio rotation, J. Cole’s untraditional approach for releasing 2014 Forest Hills Drive has proven to be successful, because the album has gone platinum.

The North Carolina native shocked fans back in November when he announced, via Twitter, that he’d be dropping his third LP.

Since then, the record – named after the address of his childhood home, which is currently a safe haven for single mothers – has spawned the chart-toppers “Apparently,” “Wet Dreamz” and “G.O.M.D.

The emcee also supported the project by launching the FMSL junket, where he travelled the country to meet some of his biggest fans, and he soon after hit the road for a three-part world tour, which just wrapped in his Fayetteville hometown last week.

2014 Forest Hills Drive has now sold more than one million copies, a first for the hip-hop legend.

So much for being a B-list celebrity. Congratulations, Cole!
