Orange is the New Black is on its way back, and the ladies of Litchfield are out for blood.
The fifth season of Orange is the New Black is set to hit Netflix on June 9th, and when we return to Litchfield will see our favorite ladies at war. Though we’ve already seen the first minute of the season premiere, the new trailer gives us even more clues about what goes down in the aftermath of Poussey’s (Samira Wiley) death.
Taking place over three days and in real time, the 13-episode season is going to be more volatile than ever. In response to their beloved friend’s murder, the women have started a riot. It also looks like they’ve seized the prison for themselves tying up the staff and getting the media’s attention regarding the injustices that occur behind prison walls.
From what we can see in the trailer, there is also something deeply disturbing going down in the Litchfield prison records. Red (Kate Mulgrew) and Blanca (Laura Gómez) looked pretty distraught over whatever they found. Earlier this year, Danielle Brooks, who plays Taystee told E! News, “It will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready.” Until the series premieres, you can check out the stunning way, Netflix is paying homage to the late Poussey.
Our one question is if we’ll see Laverne Cox’s Sophia much this season. She was in a maximum security prison hold last year, and she’s not seen much in the trailer at all. If they’re going to take away Poussey, we at least need our Sophia!
Orange is the New Black premieres June 9th on Netflix.
