On Thursday, ESPN broke the news that Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball severed ties with Big Baller Brand (BBB) co-founder Alan Foster. According to the sport’s news outlet, Foster has not “adequately account for the whereabouts of roughly $1.5 million from Ball’s personal and business accounts.”
A close friend of Ball’s father, LaVar Ball, who also co-founded BBB, the basketball star accuses Foster of using “his access to my business and personal finances to enrich himself.” The 21 year old told ESPN, “As a result, I have decided to sever all ties with Alan, effective immediately.”
News of Ball terminating the relationship with Foster raised the question of him possibly signing with Nike for an apparel and shoe deal. Recent posts shared on his Instagram account only heightened rumors that he’s headed over to the athletic brand.
On Sunday, Ball posted a picture of him wearing a Lakers jersey, made by Nike, with the caption, “Moving on to bigger and better, #Myownman.” Ball’s Laker teammates and Nike signees Lebron James and Josh Hart liked the post.
As if a co-sign from his teammates wasn’t enough, Ball’s younger brother LaMelo ball fueled speculation when he replied, “love you brotha thanks for getting us out my G.”
Despite all of the online rumors, there has not been an official update released about the Ball brothers’ standing with the BBB, just news on Lonzo’s split from Foster.
Their father told ESPN he was “stunned,” by the new details. “I’ve always believed in the best in people. Regretfully, I put my complete trust in Alan Foster to manage my son’s business affairs,” he said. “At the end of the day, family comes first, and I support Zo wholeheartedly. Together, we will make this right.”
