Irv Gotti lives and breathes hip-hop. You can feel the passion and see the increased energy whenever he talks about it.
So it makes total sense that the veteran music business executive and founder of Murder Inc. locked down a multi-platform deal to develop a scripted anthology series centered on hip-hop, entitled Tales.
The series, in partnership with BET Networks and Tidal, is set to bring lively hour-long narratives that will adapt the lyrics of classic hip-hop songs and flip them into three-acts. Think cinematic storytelling with songs like Jayoncé’s “On The Run” and N.W.A.’s “F The Police”.
Gotti will produce the project via his Visionary Ideas production company. He’ll also write and direct some of the episodes.
“I’m going to tell a story like only I can tell a story and involve the hip-hop culture, which is colorless,” he told Billboard. “This isn’t no reality show [stuff] and not a video.”
Tidal has its imprint on the project, as well. Subscribers to the artist-ran streaming platform will have access to exclusive director’s cut versions of each episode following the original BET airing.
Tales is slated to make its wave in the second or third quarter of 2017 with a different director, screenwriter and cast on a weekly basis.
In addition to the excitement of the anthology series, Gotti has a Murder Inc. documentary in the works. He posted the below image and caption on his Instagram.
Gotti is working and we can’t wait to see the final product of these projects!
