Rapping, as we’ve learned via Issa Rae’s “Awkward Black Girl” YouTube series is how she “copes with stress.”
Welp, her “bars” were introduced to a new audience. Earlier this morning the Insecure star took her rapping talents to Good Morning America.
Here’s a little taste of her rhymes:
“Insecure all day you should get to know me!”
And despite the off-beat clapping from the audience, we are feeling these bars. Get to know Issa and her rap alter ego below.

Insecure HBO pulled in over 1 million viewers during the debut of its first episode. Clap it up! The eight-episode comedy series is about two women dealing with the ups and downs of their personal and professional lives. The popularity of the show stems from the hilarious reliability these two women have with your “regular degular” working black woman.
“I wanted to have two dark-skinned women as leads who were still desirable and still were to a degree—it’s called Insecure—but they still have a sense of confidence in who they are. We don’t get to see that. For me, that was an important choice.” – Issa Rae.
Catch this hit show every Sunday at 10:30pm EST on HBO.
