1970s James Bond star Yaphet Kotto blasted ongoing rumors that a black actor was being casted as the British Secret Service agent during a recent interview. The actor, who is black, called the idea “ridiculous” and “silly.”
Idris Elba was eyed by many, including Sony Pictures, to take the lead role for obvious reasons. He’s British and has that James Bond charisma. Unfortunately, Mr. Elba laid the rumors to rest last week.
During an appearance at the British Film Institute in London, the 42-year-old actor told the audience that his chances of landing the role have passed.
“Honestly, it’s a rumor that’s really starting to eat itself,” Elba said according to The Hollywood Reporter. “if there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone.”
Welp, so much for that.
What’s so ridiculous about the idea of a black James Bond? Am I missing something?
If we’re waiting for Hollywood, it will never be ready until it’s done. But in this case, even Hollywood i.e. Sony Pictures was ready!
