Idris Elba to Produce ‘Brazza,’ an Africa-set Drama

Idris Elba is an actor, fashion designer, and DJ, now he’s adding yet another title to his resume: TV producer. The British star’s Green Door Pictures has teamed up with Tandem Productions and Havas Media’s Save Ferris Entertainment to create Brazza.

Set in Republic of the Congo’s capital city of Brazzaville, the drama will bounce between Africa and Europe and examine how “one family’s bloody feud threatens the [Congo’s] uneasy truce.”

Elba, whose parents hail from Ghana and Sierra Leone, said he’s looking forward to showing off the continent and its rich culture.

“I am so proud to be working on this African-set drama and to introduce a global audience to a world and culture that resonates so vibrantly with me,” he said. “We at Green Door are thoroughly enjoying our journey with Studiocanal, Tandem and Save Ferris and are very excited for the future.”

Tandem executive Rola Bauer said the project will help showcase Africa as it moves into the first world.

Brazza will be a visceral series exploring one family’s feud across Africa and Europe. Idris’ lens into this narrative is quite inspirational and as Africa awakens, marching boldly into the first world,” Bauer said. “We could not have asked for better partners in Idris and his team, as well as our cousins at Save Ferris/Havas Productions. Paul Viragh’s talent to create compelling characters with strong emotional journeys will ground this story in the here and now.”

While there’s no release date for Brazza just yet, it sounds like it’ll be super interesting to watch. We can’t wait.
