Dorothy Dandridge would have been 90-years-old today! The stunningly beautiful singer/actress was born November 9, 1922 in Cleveland Ohio. 1954’s Carmen Jones was the film that brought her to the national spotlight and cemented her status as a Hollywood icon. Dandridge’s story was chronicled in HBO’s Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (1999), and she was portrayed by Halle Berry.
“I believe Dorothy passed the ball to me… She blazed a trail for Black actresses and fought so hard to widen horizons for our people,” Berry told EBONY magazine in an August 1999 issue.
