Hackers Just Leaked Season Five Of ‘OITNB’— For Real

Orange Is the New Black isn’t supposed to drop new episodes until June, but a hacker just released most of season five.

Netflix has 99 problems and apparently, their security is one. Before the first 10-epsidoes of season five of OITNB were leaked on the internet, a hacker that goes by the name of thedarkoverlord tried to hold them for ransom. Apparently, the hacker presented Netflix with a ton of demands for the safe and unleaked return of the episodes. It appears that the popular streaming service was unbothered because they chose not to respond. However, Netflix did release a statement to the press saying,

“We are aware of the situation. A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised, and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved.”

It appears that thedarkoverlord was not bluffing and after being ignored by Netflix, they went ahead and dropped 10 out of the 13 episodes even though OITNB won’t premiere until June 9th. The hacker said,

“It didn’t have to be this way, Netflix. You’re going to lose a lot more money in all of this than what our modest offer was. We’re quite ashamed to breathe the same air as you. We figured a pragmatic business such as yourselves would see and understand the benefits of cooperating with a reasonable and merciful entity like ourselves.”

Though Netflix is still out here collecting all our coins and sticking to their original release date, thedarkoverlord might have other unreleased episodes of various TV shows and films. They claim they have access to ABC’s The Catch, Netflix’s Win It All and E!’s The Arrangement among others.

We don’t know what’s going to come of all of this, but with the impending WGA Writer’s Strike, things aren’t looking too good for the television industry right now.

If you plan on waiting, you can catch season five of OITNB when all 13 episodes of the series drop on June 9th. The season will pick up during a riot sparked by Poussey’s death and follow the women of Litchfield over the course of three days.

Will you be waiting until June for more OITNB?
