My mom introduced me to author Omar Tyree’s Flyy Girl.
From page one, I was hooked and an escapee in the coming-of-age page-turner that adventurously navigated characters and story lines. Flyy Girl was everything – sassy, confident, honest – and a book I would later pass on to my little cousin, Jas, as I dived into Tyree’s follow-up For The Love of Money.
So to be in this moment, sharing with you that this young adult treasure of mine is now being adapted into a film, is absolutely, well, pretty darn … dope! 🙂
Here’s the scoop: Sanaa Lathan has signed on to star in as well as executive produce the feature film in a partnership with Codeblack Films.
Lathan will bring to life Tracy Ellison, a witty and goal-oriented chick living in the fast-lane who attributes the dollar to the root of happiness. She soon deals with consequences of her choices while re-examining self, sexuality and purpose. However, you’re in for a good time along the way!
Gregory Fletcher (Precious) joins the production crew as the screenwriter.
Details on when Flyy Girl will hit theaters have yet to be released.
JET will keep you posted.
