Raven-Symoné may leave people confused with her controversial viewpoints. But, that’s just Raven, the person. Raven, the entertainer has undeniable talent and nails a scene with her acting ability.
So, with all biases aside (if you should have them), direct your attention to Raven’s latest project, an independent film set to make its debut at this year’s Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF).
The film, A Girl Like Grace, unfolds the story of a 17-year-old female growing up in a small, Southern community where notions of femininity, sexual identity and survival are at odds.
Grace, played by Ryan Destiny is mourning the suicide of her best friend, Andrea (Paige Hurd). While her mother is too preoccupied with her own struggles, Grace finds herself in a world unknown entangled with promiscuity, drugs and hard lessons.
Raven’s character doesn’t make life any more easy for Grace, as she is the leader of the bully committee and makes taunting Grace their bullseye.

A Girl Like Grace was written and directed by Ty Hodges (Miles From Home), and also stars Meagan Good, Garcelle Beauvais and Romeo Miller.
The LAFF kicks off June 10 and runs through June 18, showcasing 74 feature films, 50 shorts and over 50 new media works from across the country.
