Fake Drake Tour Rips Off Fans

Drizzy is not coming to a town near you, but that didn’t stop several fans from falling for a scam where an illicit promoter tricked several concert venues into hosting a non-existent 8-city Drake tour.

With seats on Craigslist reportedly going for as much as $550 a pop, several fans in Houston had already snatched up the fraudulent tickets on pre-sale. Once the Arena Theatre in Houston realized their planned May 13 Drake concert was all part of a money-bilking scheme, they froze the online ticket pre-sales and released a statement saying duped fans will get full refunds and first dibs on any legit Drake tickets if they can get the rapper/R&B singer to do a show.

Said Drake’s team in a statement:

“Drake has never been scheduled to appear at the Arena Theatre venue. When we learned of this situation we immediately encouraged the venue and promoter to contact law enforcement to initiate an investigation. We are horrified that someone would use Drake’s name to take advantage of his fans. For any individuals who may have fallen victim to this, please contact your local authorities.”

According to Gawker’s Antiviral blog, this isn’t the first time someone tried to rip off concert venues with promises of an appearance from October’s Very Own. In 2010 some hustlers ran a very similar scam, claiming to be part of Drake’s management team.
