It’s official! Dr. Dre is finally releasing a new album.
The 50-year-old is calling the project Compton: A Soundtrack; it’s his first in 16 years.
Inspired by the upcoming movie Straight Outta Compton (Aug. 14), a biopic about his legendary rap group N.W.A., the emcee recorded the 16-track compilation while filming.
“I was leaving the set, coming to the studio, and I felt myself just being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album,” he said during a Beats 1 radio show. “And I kept it under wraps. And the album is finished.”
*throws confetti*
When you plug in your headphones to listen to the icon’s latest drop, expect to hear collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Jill Scott, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube.
The album, dubbed as his “grand finale,” will be available Friday, Aug. 7.
