Russell Simmons’ All Def Digital platform has partnered with FUSION for a multi-year broadcasting deal.
Included in the strategic partnership, FUSION will exclusively broadcast the All Def Movie Awards (ADMA) Special. Comedian Tony Rock will host the hour-long event, which will air Sunday, Feb. 28 at 7pm.
With the controversy surrounding #OscarsSoWhite, many creatives have taken on the responsibility to create spaces that celebrate the work and greatness of Black talent and films.
Films such as Creed, Straight Outta Compton, Beasts of No Nation, DOPE, Concussion and Chi-raq will face-off as Best Pictures contenders.
Other categories include Best Actor/Actress, Best Director and Best Bad Muh F**ka, among others. Will Smith will be honored with the ADMA’s first Lifetime Achievement Award and writer, producer, director and social activist Norman Lear will receive the Vanguard Award for his contributions to entertainment that helped foster an “essential dialogue about race and race relations.”
“The All Def Movie Awards are meant to fill a generational and cultural void—just as the MTV Movie Awards did,” Sanjay Sharma, president and COO of ADD said in a press release sent to JET. “FUSION is the perfect partner to celebrate the uncelebrated, and use comedy to encourage honest dialogue and action.”
