Well that was a fun trip down memory lane!

VH1’s CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story was on point. From the outfits to the hair, it was hard to tell sometimes which scenes were taken from actual footage and which parts were filmed for the movie.

Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical about the casting when I first heard about the biopic. But Drew Sidora (T-Boz), Lil Mama (Left Eye) and Keke Palmer were outstanding.

The movie is a two-and-a-half hour version of, well, TLC’s story…beginning with T-Boz and Left Eye auditioning for Pebbles and L.A. Reid. They ditched Crystal (the other girl no one’s ever heard of) and picked up Chilli, who was a backup dancer.

Moving on, Chilli and producer Dallas Austin (played by Evan Ross, son of Diana Ross) start a little something  something. She becomes pregnant, but decides on an abortion.

If anything, the women of TLC were always there for one another. I admire their friendship, which was especially evident during the scene after Chilli’s abortion, T-Boz’s hospitalization because of sickle cell anemia and the girls defending Left Eye on the red carpet. Even today, the sisterhood remains strong.

(One question remains though: who exactly was the person they told off? Lil Kim? Beyonce? The world may never know.)

Throughout the movie, we witness the ups and downs of TLC…with the help of some quotes from the group’s Behind the Scenes episode. Seriously, how could you forget such classics as “Turn on channel 2, Lisa burned the house down!” and “This is how a group can sell a million records and still be broke.”

And, of course, we all know how this story ends. On April 25, 2002, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was killed in a car accident while visiting Honduras.

It was probably the toughest role of the three and, in my opinion, Lil Mama rised to the challenge. There may be more to her than lip gloss after all.

While CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story probably won’t win any awards, it accurately portrayed the girls’ personalities and struggles. I personally enjoyed the #TLCThrowback and I can’t wait to rock out to their greatest hits CD.
