Curious about who will play Kunta Kinte and Chicken George in the Roots remake? Wonder no more, because the A&E Network has just announced its cast.
The cable channel is introducing the world to Malachi Kirby and Regé-Jean Page. Kirby will play Kunta Kinte, while Page will take on the role of Chicken George.
After a global search that spanned 15 locations including Zimbabwe, Los Angeles and London, filmmakers say, “the newcomers stood out from the crowd and showed an emotional depth and understanding of the characters that is critical to the project.”
The ensemble isn’t only featuring fresh faces. Veterans such as Forest Whitaker as “Fiddler,” Anika Noni Rose as “Kizzy,” Derek Luke as “Silla Ba Dibba” and Laurence Fishburne as “Alex Haley” have all signed on for the project.
Additionally, EBONY’s cover guy Questlove is set to handle sound for the production as the Executive Music Producer, and Mario Van Peeples will direct a portion of the miniseries.
