In 2014, Twitter openly admitted their struggles with diversity within the social media organization.
Well it looks like they’ve taken the necessary steps by first acknowledging the issue and then curating a plan of action.
And today, the social platform’s chairman announced that BET’s CEO Debra Lee has joined the Twitter board of directors!
Lee confirmed the news via, yep…you guessed it…Twitter!
Thrilled to be joining the @twitter board. It’s transformed the media and the world like few other things in history (and continues to)!!

Lee’s latest appointment marks the first Black person to be on Twitter’s board. In her position, she will join the board’s executive directors in continuing to push the brand forward and making it a transformative marketing space.
In addition, the media maven will also serve as a member of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.
Congrats, Debra Lee!
