‘Baby Boy 2’ Is the Latest Sequel We Didn’t Ask For

It looks like Tyrese just confirmed a sequel to 2001’s Baby Boy, but the issue is, no one asked for it.

John Singleton’s 2001 film, Baby Boy, put Tyrese and Taraji P. Henson on the map, helping Tyrese score his role in the Fast and Furious franchise and though it would come much later, set Henson on a path to be one of the greatest actresses our time. The story follows Jody (Tyrese) a twenty-something f*ck boy trying to skirt around his responsibilities while juggling two baby mamas. It doesn’t help that he still lives with his own mother.

To this day, the film (which was originally supposed to star Tupac) is a classic in Black Cinema, and with all of the reboots and sequels happening, it appears that Baby Boy is about to be next.

Over the weekend Tyrese posted a clip of the film on his Instagram page with the caption, “Sequel to Baby Boy coming soon….. #BabyBoyComingOfAge shout to @johnsingleton.

Baby Boy was a coming of age story so we’re not sure what a sequel would look like. Also, there are some things that should just be left alone. The Best Man Holiday somehow worked, but we just can’t see the same for Baby Boy 2.

Taraji. P. Henson who is currently starring as Cookie Lyon on Empire and filming the new thriller Proud Mary has not mentioned any involvement in the sequel as of yet. Honestly, she would be the only reason we’d even watch it. Meanwhile, John Singleton is currently focused on his BET series Rebel and gearing up for his Showtime series Snowfall which will air this summer. We just don’t see how Baby Boy 2 could fit into either of their schedules.

Maybe Tyrese should just stick to the Fast and Furious and retire from any and all comments concerning Black women. That’s truly the best look for him.

Would you watch a sequel to Baby Boy? It’s a no for us.
