Tia Mowry-Hardrict just announced that a Sister, Sister reboot is happening, and we’re a bit puzzled.
Hollywood is living for reboots right now. With everything from Raven’s Home to Twin Peaks, it seems like we’re in an age of nostalgia. However, we don’t think that EVERYTHING needs to be rebooted. Some things worked as they were and bringing them into the 21st-century might tarnish what we loved. During the ’90s, ABC’s Sister, Sister starring Tia and Tamera Mowry, was THE sitcom.
We loved watching the very different identical twins and their adoptive parents as they tried to get through high school and college in one piece. “Go home Roger” is still iconic. Also, who doesn’t adore Jackée Harry and Tim Reid? The show has been over for seventeen years, so we can’t even imagine what a reboot would look like.
In an interview with Nylon, Mowry-Hardrict said, “We’re looking, right now, for a producer and a writer, someone who can kind of be a leader of the pack in regards to running the show. I thought people would kind of be jumping on it, but it’s a lot harder than my sister, and I thought it would be. Everything in my career has always been a challenge.” Despite the challenges, the sisters have vowed not to give up. “It’s not dead in any kind of way,” she said. “We’re moving forward; we’re taking those strides. They’re slow strides, but we’re pushing as hard as we can to make people happy and make our fans happy.”
Honestly, we love Mowry-Hardrict on the Cooking Network and her other projects. Likewise, her sister Tamera Mowry-Housley slays on The Real. Let’s just agree to leave Sister, Sister (and any other forthcoming reboots) in the ’90s. After all, the reruns are still fire.
