The stars are most definitely aligning for actress Yaya DaCosta.
Fresh off the heels of portraying the beloved Whitney Houston in Lifetime’s biopic and a gig hosting AfroPop on PBS, the former America’s Next Top Model runner-up will star in Chicago Med, a spinoff series from the popular Chicago Fire franchise.
In DaCosta’s upcoming role, she will portray nurse Maggie Seaver who has a romantic history with Chicago Fire‘s Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), dating back to high school.
The pilot spin-off will be introduced this season during Episode 19 of Chicago Fire. Writers and producers tell Deadline that, as it has done with collision episodes of Chicago Fire and Chicago PD, there will be a massive event that brings together the Chicago Med and Chicago Fire worlds.
And with good ratings and folks tuned in, we could likely be seeing the first of a number of leading Black actors this pilot season. Now, that’s a good look.
