Private Practice was a pretty big hit for ABC, so the network is having another go at a Grey’s Anatomy spin-off.
At the ABC Upfronts this week, the network shocked the crowd by announcing yet another Grey’s Anatomy spin-off. The long-running medical drama which is headed into its fourteenth season in the fall is getting a sister show that focuses on a Seattle firehouse. There is no word on the name of the series just yet, but we do know that it will follow a group of heroic firefighters. From the captain to the newest recruit, audiences will watch these brave men and women as they risk their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock.
We all know how much Grey’s loves a good disaster, so we’re certain we’re probably in for a banging crossover episode in the future.
ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said of the forthcoming series,
“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s’ signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff.”
The first Grey’s spin-off Private Practice aired for six seasons, so ABC is probably making the right move by banking on this new firefighter based series. With The Catch officially axed and Scandal headed into its very last season, we can see why Shondaland is ready to put a spin on its oldest classic to grab a new audience.
There is no word yet on when this new Grey’s spin-off which actually premiere, but we are crossing our fingers for some good eye candy.
Until then we can look forward to Rhimes’ newest series Still Star-Crossed and For the People which will air May 29th and this fall respectively.
