Making the Aaliyah movie has been quite the task for the Lifetime network, but it appears the production team has taken steps forward this week by casting the lead part…again.
Alexandra Shipp, a 23-year-old actress from Arizona, has signed on to play “Baby Girl” in the upcoming biopic. She’s known for her role as K.T. Rush on the show House of Anubis, and her film credits include Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, Switched at Birth and Victorious.
The actress isn’t the only new member who’s joined the lineup. Wendy Williams announced Friday that she will serve as executive producer of the movie.
“I’m excited to exec produce the Aaliyah @lifetimetv movie w/ @DebraMChase. Prod starts later this month and @AlexShipppp will play Aaliyah,” the talk show host tweeted.
In the midst of an ongoing battle with the fallen singer’s family and after Disney star Zendaya backed out, it looks like the Aaliyah flick may be happening after all.
