If you thought the Fast and the Furious films were calling it a wrap after the tenth movie which is set to debut in 2021, you were dead wrong.
Since the premiere of Fast and the Furious in 2001, the thrilling car racing franchise has wracked in the dough at the box office. However, with the untimely death of one of the franchise leads Paul Walker back in 2013, many fans thought the series would be saying good-bye. However, that all changed last week when the eighth film of the franchise, The Fate of the Furious came roaring into theaters. The film broke the record for the highest opening of any film worldwide.
With dollar signs clearly gleaming in their eyes, Universal Studios has decided to double down on their investment by adding a spin-off into the mix.
Though things are still in preliminary stages, we do know that this new film will focus on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham characters, Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw respectively. No script has been written yet, but both Johnson and Statham showed amazing chemistry in The Fate of the Furious, so this could actually be good. Their banter and comedic relief were the glue that kept the film’s shaky narrative from falling apart. With both characters having rich backstories, we can see this spin-off franchise extending well into the future.
It looks like instead of tapping the brakes, the Fast and the Furious franchise has only begun revving up for more. Will you be watching this new Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham led spin-off?
