A Tribe Called Quest Animates Phife for New Video

A Tribe Called Quest

Following the release of their final album and an epic comeback performance on Saturday Night Live with Dave Chappelle, A Tribe Called Quest is making their way back into the spotlight.

ATCQ released their sixth studio album, We got it from Here… Thank you 4 Your Time mid-November after an 18-year hiatus from their previous album The Love Movement in 1998. Prior to the release of their final album, ATCQ’s Phife Dawg passed away in March from complications due to diabetes.

Now, the remaining band mates Q-Tip, Jarobi, and Ali Shaheed have come together to create a music video for their hit song, “We The People,” a song that touches on the issues of race, homophobia, and anti-Muslim sentiments. The video  displays Q-Tip inside of a control center, performing his verse over an intercom that broadcasts to the outside world.

Phife’s verse on the song visually shows an animated sketch of the emcee on the side of a building.

The video also shows people being hypnotized and consumed with what’s on their cell phone or tablet, while others are taking to the streets in protests.
