I Tried The $10 Foundation That Solange Wore To An Award Show

And I officially refuse to wear anything else.

As a beauty editor, it is my job to be the sleuth of IG comment threads, Youtube video tutorials and direct emails of the newest and greatest products on the market. If there is a product mentioned, I am always nearby lurking. It’s an acquired skill unlike any other. I enjoy the thrill of discovering the hair pomade that Beyoncé uses to slick her hair back or the eyeliner that Rihanna always keeps in her bag. It’s fun, and it’s my duty to you as readers, but it can also be emotionally taxing! The routines run the gamut of “achievable” to “never happening in my lifetime”.

But when I got my hands on Solange’s look for the BET Awards– it was on! You can imagine my excitement when I found that Solange’s makeup routine was entirely drugstore products. You have to understand that I am always on the search for a foundation that looks skin-like on black skin especially from the Queen of the no-makeup makeup look, Solange.

Foundation often doesn’t match my skin tone, or it has an unnatural shimmer that makes me look oily. But the twist-up tube of the solid foundation from Black Opal glides on buttery and blends seamlessly. A small amount of the foundation goes a long way which means that you only need one application to keep the finish lightweight and luminous. Needless to say, this has risen to the top of my makeup bag.
