CNN Reintroduces Itself Without Blacks or Hispanics

CNN has rolled out a new campaign with the tagline, “Allow us to reintroduce ourselves.” However, the network’s revamped roster blatantly lacks true racial diversity.

The campaign is running in several high profile spots, including takeover ads (pictured above) on popular media news sites and it features a blue background with CNN’s signature logo and focuses on the network’s new and old talent. While Sanjay Gupta and Fareed Zakaria are of South Asian background there’s still no African American, Hispanic or Native American faces.

Spokespeople from both the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic journalists aren’t pleased about the lack of racial diversity in CNN’s new lineup and neither are we. Sure, big wigs at CNN have the right to hire what ever talent they wish to represent their network but this recent roll out is not reflective of the United States’ sundry demographics. Shouldn’t that be a priority when it comes to reporting fair and balanced news from a platform geared toward the entire nation?

So far, CNN hasn’t addressed the issue but perhaps we should by not tuning in.
