Freeform’s new series The Bold Type follows three fearless women you wish you knew in real life.
Inspired by the life of Joanna Coles, former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief and current chief content officer of Hearst magazines who also serves as series executive producer, The Bold Type follows the women of Scarlet magazine, who are struggling to find their voices while maintaining friendships, love lives and staying abreast in the bustling world that is publishing.
Aisha Dee, 23, stands out as Kat, Scarlet’s recently promoted social media director. Striking and fearless, Kat isn’t afraid to speak her mind, nor will she be intimidated by anyone in the cutthroat world of print magazines. In the dope clip below, Kat gives a conference room full of people the side eye over outdated lingo. (Apparently, the word “vajayjay” is “so 2006.”)
Rounding out the cast are Katie Stevens and Meghann Fahy, who play Jane and Sutton, respectively. Jane has just been promoted to her dream job as a writer for Scarlet. Her ultimate goal is to write about “bigger” things, but she finds that she is just a bit overwhelmed by life in New York City. Meanwhile, Sutton, a sweet and dependable assistant, just might be crushed by the weight of her determination and lack of experience. Check out the trailer for the bold AF series below:
The Bold Type premieres July 11 at 9 p.m. ET on Freeform.
