Game Of Thrones is one of the most popular shows in history, and its stars are about to become the highest paid of all time.
As we all sit around waiting for D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and HBO to drop us some crumbs about the upcoming seventh season of the series, GoT’s stars are raking in the cash. With the fantasy epic set to say good-bye at the close of season eight, the final five remaining regular cast members are about to make history with their new salaries.
According to UK’s Daily Express, Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) are about to pocket an astronomical $2.6 million dollars a piece per episode. (The stars of The Big Bang Theory and Friends made pretty hefty salaries as well, but this is a whole new level of money.) Becuase GoT’s seasons are much shorter than a traditional 22 -episode network season, the cast members won’t make as much overall, but seriously, who is complaining?
Knowing that the final 13-episodes of Game of Thrones must go out with a bang (especially since George R.R. Martin probably isn’t giving us a new book anytime soon) HBO has also beefed up GoT’s budget. Though the series was already spending an astounding $6 million dollars per episode on dragons, battles and the like, that number has just been raised to $10 million.
Still, even though the ink is dry on these final contracts, don’t expect them to give you any hints about who might survive all of the bloodshed. The actors are only set to get paid for as long as their characters live.
Our only question is, do they need someone to play a White Walker? We have time!
