A 37-year-old woman was fatally wounded in yet another round of Chicago gun violence on Thursday, and it was while she was celebrating her birthday.
ABC 7 reports that Chanda Foreman spent the day before her death by working, hanging with family and preparing for an evening on the town.
Her coworkers at Comcast decorated her desk for the occasion and held a party in her honor. Foreman was shot and killed and four others wounded when a gold Buick with four people inside pulled up in the 9500 block of South Loomis. About 9:45 a.m., two gunmen opened fire from the back seat.
According to police, Foreman was inside her car when she was shot. Her mother, Cathy Geralds, was told another woman was also shot while inside Foreman’s car, and three other people were shot on the front porch of Foreman’s aunt’s home.
“And I knew she was gone,” Geralds said. “She was gone.”
Foreman died while being transported to Holy Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
Earlier that evening, she had enjoy a nice dinner downtown and then gone to her aunt’s home, Geralds said. She was told that two groups were shooting from either end of the block and believes Foreman was struck while she was waiting inside her car outside the house.
“I didn’t get to talk to her today,” Geralds said. “I sent her a text and wished her a happy birthday.”
Police said the shooting was gang-related. No one is is custody.
