Watch: Aretha Franklin ‘Purple Rain’ Tribute

It was a star-studded event filled with jazzy talent from various generations. Friday night, the White House celebrated International Jazz Day with artists ranging from Herbie Hancock and Buddy Guy to Esperanza Spalding and Rapsody.

While many artists used their voices to honor the musical genre, Aretha Franklin took center stageto pay homage to the late icon Prince.

With a purple lit stage and subtle sparkle, “Auntie ‘Retha” sung the timeless classic “Purple Rain” following a jazzy rap flow intro by Jamla recording artist, Rapsody.
