A violent online threat against Black students at a Central Texas high resulted in hundreds of parents removing their students from the premises late Friday.
An Instagram user by the name of “jakedajesus254” posted an image of a man holding a gun and another with a message for kids attending Killeen High School, according to the Killeen Daily Herald.
“This is a final warning to all the n—— out there,” the message read. “I’m gonna beat UR a—- I wanna fight every n—– who thinks he can take me. I will be fighting everyone I can tomorrow after school in front of the school.”
The posts came at 10:17 p.m. Thursday. They have since been removed from the social media platform.
Facebook messages encouraging parents to keep their kids home went viral soon after the Instagram posts went up.
“HEADS UP PARENTS KEEP YOUR KIDS HOME FROM KILLEEN H.S. Tomorrow…from a concerned parent to Another!!!!!!”
“I didn’t want to take any chances. An unexcused absence is better than a permanent absence to me,” Latasha Wilkerson-Nixon told the Herald as she picked up her daughter.
The actions of worried parents who removed their children on Friday resulted in 352 absences out of the 2,000 student body.
No fights were reported and the school hosted its first football game without incident.
No one has been detained in connection with the posts.
